Friday 3rd November will see world-renowned guitarist Craig Ogden perform with the brilliant Northern Chamber Orchestra, giving the world premiere of Andy Scott’s Concerto for solo guitar & chamber orchestra. On September 24th 2017, American trumpet soloist Rex Richardson will be giving the Japanese premiere of Andy Scott’s ‘Freedom of Movement’, performing with the Symphonic Winds Tokyo in Shibuya, Tokyo The concerto was written for Rex last year and the title 'Freedom of Movement' refers to a freedom of musical expression and versatility that the soloist is given within this continuous 15-minute work. “Andy Scott’s ‘Freedom of Movement’ Trumpet Concerto […] displayed its American roots; its groovy melodic hooks and jazz improvisations fused in a virtuosic performance by Rex Richardson.” To celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Saxophony (a sax ensemble based in Winchester) Andy will be taking part in a Saxophone and Flute recital together with Clare Southworth (Flute), Ian Clarke (Flute) and Rob Buckland (Saxophone) on Saturday 23rd September.
There will be a Flute day on Saturday hosted by Clare and Ian and a Saxophone Day with Rob and Andy on Sunday 24th. Momento is a six minute work that pays homage to Monk, Ella and Dizzy, three jazz legends who share 1917 as their year of birth. The world premiere takes place on Monday 4th September 2017, 20:30 in Drescher Kellen, Kaltern, Italy, and will be performed by the combined forces of the South Tyrol & British Clarinet Ensembles. The UK premiere by the British Clarinet Ensemble will take place on Saturday 21st October 2017 in Oakham School Chapel. More details to follow…
Andy will be returning to JazzSmart to host a 3-day Saxophone Ensemble workshop over the weekend of 4th-6th August 2017 in Barton-on-Sea (near Bournemouth).
"Having the workshop over 3 days will be particularly beneficial as it will give participants the opportunity to get into detail about sound and technique of playing the Saxophone" says Andy.
