The Sandbach Concert Series will launch its 5th year with a performance by wind quintet Zephyr Winds this week.
The concert will take place at 8.00pm on Wednesday 24 September at St Mary’s Church Hall in Sandbach. This is the first of an annual programme of eight chamber music concerts for the East Cheshire region. The 5th season will include performances by an ensemble from Foden’s Band, the Aquarelle Guitar Quartet and Andy’s trio Caliente among others, and for the first time Sandbach Concert Series will hold a competition for its own Young Musician of the Year. Andy Scott is Artistic Director of Sandbach Concert Series, which was formed by Lauren Scott in 2010. With Andy’s wide music interests and influences the concerts range from classical music to the occasional jazz gig and traditional music performance, giving audiences a taste of a wide range of ensembles and styles of music. The first four years have been a great achievement, featuring everything from solo piano to 10 piece brass group, and music from classical song to jazz quintet to Celtic fiddle and harp. The events are staffed entirely by volunteers, the concerts have early start and finish times and reasonable ticket prices to encourage family audiences, and each concert is linked in with an art exhibition and a spotlight concert for young performers. The venture has created an artistic hub for the local community, providing excellent and enjoyable music events, a showcase for young musicians and a venue for local visual artists to display their work, as well as a place to meet and socialise.
