Two new commissions by Andy Scott will receive their world premieres in London on consecutive days next month.
The world premiere of Andy’s new version of My Mountain Top for alto flute trio will take place at the Wigmore Hall on 13 October, performed by Tempest Flute Trio. The following day at the Purcell Room, harpist Sioned Williams will give the world premiere of Jukebox, a work which she commissioned from Andy as part of a project to mark her 60th birthday. My Mountain Top, which already exists in a number of different instrumental versions, has proved to be one of Andy’s most popular and enduring works. The performance by Tempest Flute Trio is a Monday Platform concert for Royal Over-Seas League competition winners, which also features the saxophonist Huw Wiggin with pianist James Sherlock, playing Andy’s Three Letter Word. Jukebox was inspired by the way that people listened to music back in the 1950s when Sioned was born. The work is structured in five short unrelated movements in contrasting styles, similar to listening to five singles on a jukebox, and feature Andy’s unique jazz influenced musical vocabulary. It will be performed alongside the other five 10 minute works commissioned for this event in a Park Lane Group solo recital by Sioned.
