Tjounavagge is scored for two solo alto saxophones and saxophone ensemble. It was commissioned by Selmer Paris Saxophones and given a world premiere performance at the 9th RNCM Saxophone Day in November 2009, with soloists Vincent David and Carl Raven.
Tjuonavagge is a U-shaped valley in Lapland in northern Sweden, one of the most familiar natural sights of the mountains there. Beautifully striking, the image is one of side by side coldness and warmth, which is mirrored in the music.
