Composed in 2006 for the Andy Scott's SaxAssault CD 'Sax of Gold'. Written as a tenor saxophone feature for Bob Mintzer, Sax of Gold sees different layers of riffs passed around the ensemble whilst the bass guitar and solo tenor sax state the melody.
The sound world of ’Sax of Gold’ is different to a lot of SaxAssault charts in that the bass guitar doubles the melody with the featured tenor sax, there is no piano part, hand drumming suits the piece, and the saxes gradually build different musical lines and layers of colour.
Sensitive and melodic, ’Sax of Gold’ is an opportunity to introduce a different flavour to a performance, at the same time showcasing one of your soloists.
Performed by Andy Scott's SaxAssault & Bob Mintzer for the first time at the 14th World Saxophone Congress in Slovenia.
