'My Mountain Top' was originally written for the Apollo Saxophone Quartet (with accompanying CD) with words and narration by Lemn Sissay. Commissioned by the ISCM World Music Days, the piece was premiered by the ASQ and Lemn at the 1998 ISCM Festival in Manchester, UK
One of Andy Scott's most performed & recorded pieces, the composer has subsequently arranged it for various instrumentalists.
'My Mountain Top' (alto flute version) was premiered by Paul Edmund-Davies at the National Flute Association Convention, Charlotte, USA in August 2011. Paul Edmund-Davies suggested that the mood and darkness of 'My Mountain Top' may well be best captured by the performer playing alto flute, as opposed to flute. The results may be heard on the CD 'The Bad Tempered Flute - The Flute Music of Andy Scott' (Nimbus Alliance 6156), performed by Paul.
The arrangement for solo soprano or tenor saxophone was created for Gerard McChrystal, who premiered it at Dartington Festival (2001).
The arrangement scored for solo euphonium has been championed by many players, especially David Thornton (recorded on 'Devil's Duel' DOY CD229) & Glyn Williams (on the award winning CDs 'The Lure of the Red Jacket' DOY CD287, and 'A World Within' DOY CD276). Other notable brass recordings include Les Neish (multi-award winning CD 'Salt of the Earth' SFZ 150) and Scherzo Brass Quartet ('Scherzo' MHP1309).
