'Don't Shoot the Duck' was written in 2006 for the SaxAssault CD 'Sax of Gold'. The first play through of the tune is stated in unison (octaves) by the soprano, alto & tenor saxophones, underpinned by several different pedal tones from the baritones & bass saxophones. The tune is then restated with the full rhythm section kicking in. Solo sections follow, with backing figures and bridge sections before a brief coda.
This tune has proved especially popular on SaxAssault gigs as an end to either first or second sets, with its infectious groove, high energy and immediate impact. It also allows space for a number of players to be featured as soloists, either over the given changes, or over one chord.
