Andy Scott’s arrangement of Amazing Grace features on a new solo CD by Foden’s Band’s star trombonist John Barber released this month.
Amazing Grace brings the album to a close in a reflective mood, with the beautiful simple tune given Andy’s special treatment in this arrangement for trombone and piano, featuring Foden’s Band. The CD, entitled simply Barber, comprises works by a selection of contemporary composers, including four of John Barber’s own solo piano pieces. John Barber is widely regarded as one of the most versatile trombonists in Britain today. He is Principal Trombone of the Foden's Brass Band, a position he has held since joining from the Black Dyke Band in 1996. He premiered Andy Scott’s Molecular Cocktail Party, a concerto for improvising musician, which was commissioned for him as soloist by Foden’s Band and which can be heard on Spirit of Foden’s, the second CD of Andy Scott’s works for the prize winning band.
