Ballad in Memory of Shirley Horn - Richard Rodney Bennett

Ballad in Memory of Shirley Horn - Richard Rodney Bennett

Originally written for Clarinet & Piano (commissioned by Nigel Hinson), this piece was written in memory of the jazz singer Shirley Horn.

"I was fortunate enough to be in New York City (performing at the IAJE Conference with Dave Hassell) in January 2006 & met with RRB in his home city to rehearse ‘Concerto for Stan Getz’ with him, prior to performance at his 70th Birthday Concert in March that year. He asked me if I would mind playing through his new piece for Clarinet & Piano at the end of our rehearsal. Following this run through he suggested that we edit the Clarinet part so that a Saxophone version may be published." Andy Scott.

A beautifully crafted heartfelt composition, performed for the first time in the new Tenor Saxophone and Piano arrangement at the 8th Royal Northern College of Music Saxophone Day by Andy Scott & Adam Caird, on 16th November 2008.

Published by Chester/Novello (Saxophone version in 2009).
