Llandudno Festival
In addition to the SaxFest concerts in Warrington & Llandudno, Bill Connor invited Richard Ellis, Dave Hassell & myself to the Festival to perform our ‘A Summer with Monica’ multimedia project.
We’ve been experimenting in rehearsals for the last nine months (courtesy of an RNCM Research Grant), developing the interplay between words and music. Richard is a fantastic actor/narrator/performer who is totally at home on stage. The soundscapes that Dave & I improvise around the words of poems by Roger McGough & Lemn Sissay can be at times minimal, dense, colourful, dark, playful, moody……
Digital photgrapher Gary Abbott has created some thought-provoking abstract images that are projected during our performances, the words of Roger McGough’s poem ‘A Summer with Monica’ are amazing! I’m hoping that Festival Directors will pick up on this project in 2009/10 – we’ve done enough research, now we want to get on with the real thing & gig it!
