February 2005
A couple of good gigs coming up this month with the Apollo Saxophone Quartet. We have a performance at RNCM on the 21st of Feb, and in Lisbon on the 27th of February. Details are on the events page. Had a good weekend in Bournemouth working with the “Swing Unlimited Big Band” and also at the latest Benslow Saxophone Course at the end of January working with fellow tutor Gerard McChrystal (who had a surprise significant birthday party thrown by all on the course). Gerard is premiering a new version of “Nemesis” for saxophone and guitar with Craig Ogden at the British Saxophone Congress in Birmingham on Sunday 13th February. Special thanks go to Craig who arranged the guitar part of “Nemesis” from the original version for Vibraphone. I’m looking forward to hearing the premiere of this version at what should be an exciting saxophone event. The Apollo have been busy writing a new saxophone and piano book which will be published by Astute Music shortly. Also being published soon is a piece I wrote for the British Clarinet Ensemble, “Paquito” which is receiving its UK premiere at the Colchester Single Reed Day in Colchester on Sunday 20th February. The BCE, directed by Charles Hine, gave the World Premiere of “Paquito” last summer in Washington DC.
Rob Buckland and I are making a return trip to the Universität der Künste Berlin (Berlin Conservatoire) following on from our visit a couple of years back. Its good to extend the links between the Universität der I’m delighted that the World Tenor Saxophone Consortium members have received the score which we have commissioned from Graham Fitkin, and it’s a great piece! Details of all the concurrent premieres by the consortium members are on the WTSC page. My performance of the Graham Fitkin new work is at the RNCM on the 26th of April, and I will be joined by Dave Hassell, Richard Ellis and Gary Abbott as we will be presenting a double bill multimedia event with the addition of words and images. Click here for PDF flyer wth more details. Thanks for reading this and hope you can make some of the events. Andy |
