Lara James

Lara studied at the Manhattan School of Music, University of Manchester and the Royal Northern College of Music gaining her MusM, GMus(Hons)RNCM, PPRNCM.

A varied range of freelance solo work, chamber ensembles, recording work for TV and radio, bands and orchestras; which has included the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, English Northern Philharmonia, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Cornelius Cardew Ensemble, while solo projects have seen her performing as concerto soloist on tour with National Youth Orchestra of Wales, soloist with the East of England Orchestra (CD project) as well as numerous contemporary classical recitals, jazz/world music gigs and events. Festival performances include various appearances at the Manchester Jazz Festival, also the Ether Festival at the Queen Elizabeth Hall London, and Manchester's In The City Festival, Bridgewater Hall.

Lara was a featured soloist and lecturer at the 2002 7th British Saxophone Congress and a competitor at the 2nd International Competition in memory of Adolphe Sax, held in Dinant, Belgium for which she was awarded the Wynford Davies Travelling Scholarship. Other awards include the Ryan Davies Memorial Trust Fund Award and a Manhattan School of Music Scholarship.

Lara has performed throughout the UK, in Europe and in New York and is currently Saxophone Tutor at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama and at the RWCMD Junior Department & Access Studies.
