And Everything is Still...
Andy Scott is an endorsee of Selmer Paris Saxophones
Andy Scott is Vice-President of the International Saxophone Committee. The next congress is the World Saxophone Congress 2012 at St Andrews, Scotland
Dave Hassell and Andy have just returned from recording a CD, collaborating with Mexican percussionist, Evaristo Aguilar. They flew via New York and Houston before arriving in Tampico in Mexico. Met by Evaristo they then travelled 5 hours by truck, through army checkpoints, to Las Pozas which is set deep in the jungle.
Travelling with them was photographer William Ellis from Manchester, who was luckier than room mate Evaristo with the local wildlife. The group were fortunate to only encounter a rabid dog, huge spiders, lizards and hornets!
The reason for the trek through the jungle was to visit Las Pozas, referred to as a "surreal eden". The brain child of English aristocrat and patron of the Arts, Edward James, Las Pozas is an incredible collection of giant concrete sculptures which took 40 years to build. They spent 3 days recording the sights and sounds and then returned to a recording studio in Tampico.
The result is a CD which is being released in January 2010 of improvised music (tenor saxophone & a variety of amazing percussion instruments) based on the incredible sights and sounds from this surreal eden hidden in the jungle.
