The Bad Tempered Flute – The Flute Music of Andy Scott
Paul Edmund Davies, Clare Southworth, Andy Findon (flute)
Craig Ogden (guitar), Lauren Scott (harp),
Tim Carey, Peter Lawson (piano)
The Bad Tempered Flute is a collaborative project between Andy Scott as composer and seven world class instrumentalists. The CD features three different flautists, each performing a selection of Andy’s original compositions for the instrument, solo or together with piano, guitar, harp, and in one case, recorded tape backing with poetry by Lemn Sissay. All the performers are high profile soloists in the classical music world, including internationally renowned flautists Paul Edmund-Davies, Clare Southworth and Andy Findon, leading pianists Peter Lawson and Tim Carey, versatile harpist Lauren Scott and virtuoso guitarist Craig Ogden.
The idea for the collaborative recording arose through Andy Scott working with each of the featured artists, and several of the tracks have a specific link with one of the performers through commission or dedication. The album, showcasing Andy’s unique style with his trademark mix of contemporary, jazz and world music influences, was recorded over one weekend in April 2011 and released on the Nimbus Alliance label in September 2011. It was launched at the NFA Convention in Charlotte USA in August 2011, followed by a UK launch at The Forge in London in November 2011.
CDs are available online from Nimbus Alliance or Amazon. All the sheet music for the featured works is published by Astute Music.
