Andy Scott's SaxAssault

Andy Scott's SaxAssault

Formed in 1994, Andy Scott's SaxAssault is a large jazz ensemble, consisting of nine saxophones from sopranino through to bass plus rhythm section. Andy’s compositions for SaxAssault are carefully crafted to feature every member of the ensemble, whether an improviser or more classically-trained musician. SaxAssault has been featured on BBC Radio 3 Jazz Notes performing new compositions by Andy commissioned as a result of him receiving the Peter Whittingham Award. The group has released two CDs, Bang! (1996) and Sax of Gold with special guests Bob Mintzer on tenor saxophone and Gwilym Simcock on piano (2007), and performed by invitation at the World Saxophone Congress in Slovenia. Most recently Andy Scott’s SaxAssault undertook a UK tour in autumn 2012, including a sell-out performance at the London Jazz Festival.
